TCA6424A: Power supply and INT pin function

Part Number: TCA6424A

Hi

I have some question about TCA6424A.

#1: If VCCI and VCCP is same voltage, can we use the single power supply source for both VCC rail?

#2: Regarding INT function, I do not understand this function exactly.

Is this a function to notify the CPU side that H / L of input setting port has switched?

If the INT signal is output, can I 2C communicate immediately and check the port?

If it is so, is it possible to use this if control is performed periodically (about 2 ms intervals) to check the port and only the pull-up connection is made without CPU connection?

   (Is there any concerns?)

Best Regards,

Koji Hamamoto

  • Hello Hamamoto-san,

It is OK for VCCI and VCCP to share the same power rail. It sounds like your understanding of the INT pin is correct - it can be used to indicate a change of input state so that the CPU can check the values in the input port register. The INT pin does not have to be used if the CPU regularly polls the input port, but in that case there would be a possibility that very short-duration changes of state (in this case ones shorter than 2 ms) may not be detected.
