TPS25740B: Support for VCONN

Part Number: TPS25740B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25741

Hi,

We have a TYPE-C USB Charging port in our design. Our product has to act only as DFP, Not a sink. No data communication also.

Initially we considered TPS25741 Device. Since we need to source all 4 rails (5V, 9V, 15V & 20V), we shifted to TPS25740B based on the recommendation.

During this migration, we have noticed that the TPS25740B doesn't have the VCONN pin and relevant control block (as like below picture from TPS25741).

This VCONN has to be sourced through 5V external source.

We believe this is a requirement as per PD specification and this supplies the active cable electronics.

In this case, if we use TPS25740B, can not we use active cable for charging? or Do we need to consider any other circuitry to realize the VCONN and CC switching?

When we had TPS25741, only to supply VCONN we made the power architecture to generate 5V. Now it become redundant. We can think about avoiding this generation.

Kindly clarify these.

Regards,

Felix.
