TCAN334: CANH and CANL short to GND

Part Number: TCAN334

Hi Team,

For TCAN334, can CANH and CANL pins be shorted to GND? Will it be damaged if doing so?

Thanks and best regards!

Hao

  • Hao,

There is short-circuit protection integrated into TI's CAN transceivers, as part of the automotive CAN specification. If the CANH/CANL is shorted to GND during a dominant pulse (driver is enabled), the circuit is limited from -200mA to +200mA. If the CANH/CANL is shorted to GND during a recessive pulse (driver isn't enabled), the circuit is limited from -5mA to +5mA.

In either case, the device should not be damaged. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

    Regards,
