TCAN1043-Q1: CAN bus stub node design question

Part Number: TCAN1043-Q1

Hi Sir,

We found there is a connection from CAN by stub node as below diagram,

It seems to connect 1.3kohm for split termination.

However, I am not sure where I should put these resister.

Do you have any idea for that ?

Moreover, our clients suggested us to change the terminal resister from 60.4 ohm to 68 ohm for each resister.

Is there any risk for that?

  • Anne,

For the 1.3k ohm termination resistance, this is used for nodes other than the two ends of the bus, that may have long conductors connecting them to the bus. If these conductors are left unterminated, they can cause signal reflection issues. The 1.3k ohms is to help dampen those signal reflections, while also not skewing the effecting termination resistance of the bus enough to damage the integrity of the CAN bus signals.

The TCAN1043-Q1 can work with effective termination resistances ranging from 45-70 ohms. With 136 ohms termination at each end, the effective bus impedance is 68 ohms, which is within this range.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Regards,
