TCAN330: Does the part the support SAE J1939 physical layer

For these applications you may also want to consider a transceiver with VCC support for 5 V, since these will more closely match most standard requirements.  An example device is TCAN1042V, which can maintain 3.3-V IO support and comes in a relatively small VSON package option.

No it does not. As Max said, there are limitations when it comes to the recessive out of the CAN bus. These devices work with other 5V CAN transceivers, but typically don't meet the CAN standards that define the recessive bus level. For the J1939-11 standard, the required recessive range for the CAN bus is 2.0V to 3.0V. The typical output recessive level for the TCAN33x family is 1.85V, falling below the minimum for this standard.

Is it absolutely required that the customer meet this spec? And why isn't a 5V transceiver being used?

Thank you for the reply. I do not know at the moment whether customer requires this spec but I will ask them. the 3V part is selected because of size issue of the board (no extra ldo is required).

I am wondering this compatibility issue only occurs when there are mix nodes of 3.3V and 5V transceiver, right? If a system has only 3.3V transceiver nodes then is it ok?
