TLK10232: Communication detection

Our customer is asking us the Communication detection.

Could you kindly advice us the following two question?

Phenomenon

  • CPU does not detect 10Gb ethernet inactivity of ChB even if 10Gb ethernet line is disconnected.  See “10Gb Ethernet circuit.pdf”.
  • This phenomenon occurs when registers are not optimized and disappears by optimization. See “Register Set.pdf”.
  • See “Channel Status1.pdf”.  This table shows TLK10232 register “CHANNEL_STATUS_1” when the phenomenon occurs.

 

Questions

  • Is there any possibility for TLK10232 to indicates “CHANNEL_STATUS_1” register status above in such a case?
  • What kind of XAUI output waveform can be observed when the phenomenon occurs?

    Hi,

    The customer should monitor the values for the TLK "CHANNEL_STATUS" MDIO registers, as they would reflect any LOS of signal or loss of sync or lock issues. In addition the TLK has status indication electrical output pins such as LOS which may be monitored.

    They ask us the following questions. Could you kindly support them?

    - Why bit 13,11,10 of CHANNEL_STATUS_1 of CH B does not change when 10Gb ethernet line is disconnected?

    - What kind of XAUI output waveform can be observed when 10Gb ethernet line is disconnected and CHANNEL_STATUS_1 does not Change?

    Hi,

    Can you clarify exactly what is happening when "10Gb ethernet line is disconnected"? Is the Pluggable transceiver being fully removed or is it simply the optical fiber cable being removed?

    I would expect for TLK XAUI side to show Ethernet idle pattern for case of line disconnected.

    They have understood the mechanism by following your comment.
