TCAN332EVM: Recommended parts

Part Number: TCAN332EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN334,
We are considering using TCAN334.
The circuit diagram of TCAN332EVM is used as a reference.

question 1:
Are there any recommended products for L1 and D2? Please tell me the manufacturer and part number.

Question 2:
What are the recommended capacities for C2 and C7?
  • User,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, I'd be glad to help.

    Question 1

For L1, one common-mode choke I see a lot is the ACT45C-510-2P, ACT45B-510-2P, or other values from that series of chokes.

    For D1, PESD1CAN and PESD2CAN are widely-used. Another one I've seen is NUP1105L.

    Question 2

This will depend on how many CAN nodes you have on the bus, but a good range is 20pF to 100pF. With more CAN nodes on the bus, less capacitance at C2 and C7 will need to be used.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

    Regards,

  • Hi Eric,

    Thanks for the reply.

    Question 3
Are C2 and C7 required if TVS (D1) is not added?

    Question 4
Is common inductance of common-mode-choke-coil (L1) used in CAN 51μH?
Please tell me how to determine the inductance.

  • User,

C2 and C7 are meant to be high-frequency filtering to help with RF emissions and immunity. Whether or not D1 is populated, they aren't required, they just help.

Typically, 51uH or 100uH is used for the common-mode choke value in CAN networks. The inductance value will depend on how much noise you expect and need/want to attenuate. There is also the current saturating and rating of the choke, but the ones I listed are correctly rated for CAN networks.

    Regards,
