Hi team,

My customer is considering to use this device as a repeater.

1. Is this device capable of extend eSATA cable longer than 2m?

2. What is the recommended measurement setup for this device?

Hi Itoh-san,

The device can extend eSATA based on the interconnect attenuation. Some cables longer than 2m will have attenuation levels which could exceed the SN74LVCP601 output equalization capability. This will result in an eye opening which is not large enough at the SATA device receiver.

Typical measurement setups are shown in the datasheet. Figure 9 on page 11 shows the compliance point locations.

His target is to place SATA-HDD 3m away from the PC case. Do you think it is possible?

Itoh-san,

It is possible, especially if the 3m cable can be sourced with attenuation similar to 2m cables. This would require a larger signal wire diameter.
