TUSB8043A: question

Part Number: TUSB8043A

Hello Experts,

I have a question as follows. Would you answer them?
1. My customer will use SS_port 3&4 of down stream ports (USB_SSTXP/N_DN3/4, USB_SSRXP/N_DN3/4), he will not use SS_port 1&2. Does customer need to change some register settings? Or don't need to change a register settings?

2. Regarding pin 45, if this pin is connected to GND through PD resister, TUSB8043A will configure the Automatic mode (auto detect DCP, ACP and Galaxy charging), correct? If this pin is connected to VDD through PD resister, how TUSB8043A configure? Automatic mode is disabled?

3. Regarding pin 40, would you explain about "Full Power Management"? If this pin is connected to VDD through PD resister, TUSB8043A down stream port will be not able to charge the device?

Best Regards,
Fujiwara

  • Hi Fujiwara-san,

    1. USED[3:0] register setting should changed to reflect what ports are actively used. This is so that TUSB8043A can correctly report to the Host what its capabilities are.

    2. This is correct. If pin 45 is pulled to Vdd then AUTOMODE is disabled. If AUTOMODE is disabled, then DCP mode is used. Please read section 8.3.1 Battery Charging Features of the datasheet.

    3. Full power management is the ability to control power to the downstream ports of the TUSB8043A using PWRCTL[4:1]/BATEN[4:1]. If this pin is pulled up to Vdd then TUSB8043A cannot control the Vbus power switch and therefore control charging.
