Hello Guys,

Good day!

We have a customer looking for a wireless Ethernet transceiver that a SERDES IC can send data in and out at 100 Mbps.
In the TLK1221 EVM of the figure below, instead of the loop-wires between TXP to RXP and TXN to RXN, he wanted to use a wireless transceiver instead.
Do we have a device for such application?

Hi Art,

We dont have any wireless transreceivers as such in Ethernet product line. You may be able to find something on TI.com. Do let me know if you need any help with integration of selected devices with ethernet phy and we can help with that.

Hello Vikram,

Sorry for the delayed response. I just got the response from our customer on this.

They do not need wireless anymore. He is interested on TLK1221EVM board and have the following questions.

1) If he hook up Ethernet signals on TX side, will he receive it back on RX side?

2) Can you please also clarify in EVM User guide on page 2, "For proper use of this device, users must provide dc-balanced encoded data on the parallel bus (that is, 8b/10b)" Does it mean, signal has to be encoded.

3) Will he also need phy IC along TLK1221?

Hi, my inputs below.

The TLK1221 is intented for Gigabit Ethernet applications. On the egress path the SerDes expects 10-bit parallel data output from a protocol device to for serialization and transmission. On ingress path a 1.25Gbps serial stream would be eserialized into 10-bit parallel stream
8b/10B compatible test pattern such as PRBS7 may be used on high-speed side for evaluation
The TLK1221 may be used as PRBS generator and checker

Hello Rodrigo,

We have a follow-up inquiry.

What they like to do is design point to point serial Ethernet communication system (1000 base -T or 100base-T). Like home cable internet. Ethernet signals (parallel) will be converted to Co-ax and send it over long distance. At the receiving end, it will be converted back from serial to parallel (Coax to Ethernet).

The question is if they can use TLK series IC to do that. If not, do we have other ICs that you can recommend?

The TLK retimer is not intended for BASE-T applications. I'm not aware of any TI PHY chip devices for BASE-T applications.
