DP83826E: Test results for EtherCAT applications

Part Number: DP83826E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83826I

Hello,

We are currently evaluating DP83826E and DP83826E for use as EtherCAT PHYs on our new design. I read in a TI e2e post, this part is currently going through ETG's evaluation. Has it already being evaluated by ETG? In the post, TI Engineer also mentioned TI has already done internal testing and it met EtherCAT requirements. Which internal testing was performed to verify EtherCAT requirements? Can you share these specific tests with us to help us to decide that it meets all EtherCAT requirements?

We were also looking at KSZ8081 for these same EtherCAT PHY locations. Do you have a comparison chart between KSZ8081 and DP83826I/E? There's a system rollover document from TI for KSZ8081 to DP83826 migration.

I would like to make my decisions on the PHYs by next week. If you require additional information, let me know.

Thanks,

Fazlul Karim

  • Hi Fazlul,

Thank you for you questions, I will prepare a response by Tuesday 6/2 with the items you requested.

    Regards,

  • Hi Justin,

T5 timing 'Powerup to FLP' is 1500ms (max) according to Table 8.6 in the DP83826E/I's datasheet. My understanding is FLP is required for auto-negotiation advertisement. Since it takes the PHY up to 1500ms to advertise its speed and duplex with auto-negotiation, how should this PHY be configured to achieve the < 500mS requirements for PROFINET's FSU (Fast Start-up) requirement?

For more information regarding FSU, see TI Designs 'Fast Startup for Industrial Ethernet Applications with AM335x Processors application note. It's also attached to this post.

    Looking forward to your answers.

    Thanks,
    Fazlul
