TPD8S300A: Does the TPD8S300A also integrate for the common mode choke

Part Number: TPD8S300A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPD8S300, , TPD6S300A

Hi, our customer shwoed interest in the TPD8S300 for USB protection to replace 4x Rclamp0521PA.TCT + ESD + common mode choke.

The customer wanted to know of the TPD8S300A also integrates the common mode choke or if this is needed externally?

Also, it was mentioned that our TPD6S300A might also make  sense over the TPd8300A, can you explain why?

Thanks. Dave

  • Hello Dave,

I'm not sure what you mean by common node choke. The TPD6S300A and TPD8S300A incorporate ESD protection as well as short-to-vbus protection for the nodes that are connected (CC, SBU, USB2)

The difference between these two devices is that the TPD8S300A incorporates 8 channel protection while the TPS6S300A incorporates only 6 channel protection. If you only need 6 channels, then this device would be the correct one to use
