SN65HVD230: Still a good p/n for new design?

Part Number: SN65HVD230
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD233, TCAN330,

Hi,

for water meter application my customer is using

SN65HVD230D since many years, for a new design with life cycle 10years, do you still recommned this p/n or a new one?

Many Thanks,

Antonio

  • Hi Antonio,

SN65HVD230 would be fine to use if it meets the application's requirements.  There are a couple of newer families of 3.3-V transceivers that you may want to consider as additional options.  One would be SN65HVD233/234/235.  Those have the ability to withstand +/- 36 V on the CANH/CANL pins, which can be useful in applications that could be subject to higher voltages.  There is also the TCAN330/332/334/337 family, which doesn't have the high-voltage protection but does have robust internal ESD protection (per IEC 61000-4-2), support for CAN FD data rates, and is available in small SOT packages.

    Regards,
