How do I switch this to TL16C450 mode?

HI Al,

From what I can see, the device powers up in that mode (which essentially is just when you have the FIFO disabled). You can also just set FCR bit0 to '0' and then read IIR bits 6 and 7 to confirm the FCR FIFO enable is disabled.

Thanks Bobby. As long as it powers up in 450 mode I should be good.

As a last resort I piggy-backed a PLC44 socket onto a DIP40 socket and wired them together. I then inserted a TL16C450 PLCC44 into the socket and placed that assembly in the board, everything worked great. Evidently the 550 was not powering up into 450 mode or something was changing that condition.
