My customer wants to use this RS-385 transceiver,

He is asking is it suitable to work at ranges of 1Km+ (low BR of 19.2Kbps) ?

Victor,

The RS-485 transceiver works at 1 km at 19.2 kbps as you stated, but note that the data rate does not need to be that low to achieve this cable length.

It looks like your use case is somewhere in the area I've highlighted. Note that the data rate can be as high as 100 kbps before the maximum cable length begins to drop.

1 km ≈ 3280 ft < 4000 ft
