THVD1410: Comparing to THV1450,What‘s THVD1410’s advantage?

Part Number: THVD1410
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THVD1450,

Hi team,

I have a stupid question...THVD1410‘s price is the same to THVD1450. As the THVD1450 have higher speed grade, why we choose THVD1410.  That is, in which circumstance should we choose THVD1410 rather thanTHVD1450?

  Thanks!

BR,

Victor

  • Hi Victor,

This is actually a very good question, I'm glad you bring it up.

The main difference between these parts is the timing specifications as can be seen on section 7.8 of the datasheet. The spec of interest are the output rise/fall times from the driver and receiver. This shows that THVD1450 has faster transitions and therefore a faster slew rate than THVD1410. This allows for higher data rates to be used, but also introduces more high-frequency energy in the signal due to the fast transition. This energy is more likely to be reflected throughout the system, causing ringing which degrades the signal. The larger, longer, or more complex the system is, the more susceptible it will be to this degradation. Reducing the energy and frequency of the signal will reduce the impact these phenomena will have. Therefore, lower slew rate devices such as THVD1410 may be preferable where signal integrity in a complex system is more valuable than higher data rates.

Let me know if this makes sense and if you have any more questions.

    Regards,
    Eric
