Hi team,

My customer is looking for RS232C 2ch transceiver/receiver IC, he needs 5Kohm/Hi-Z switchable pulldown function like what MAX3322E can do.

He is considering SN65C3222E, but this IC cannot switch the 5Kohm pulldown resistor to Hi-Z.

Do we have any product to replace MAX3222E? If not, is there any way to realize this function?

I've assigned this thread to our RS232 expert, but in general, no we do not have a device that can switch between high-Z and 5k termination on the input pins. I'll let our applications support of RS232 comment further on the options for realizing this function externally.

Confirming Eric's comments, I'm not aware of any TI RS-232 implementing the switchable termination. The discrete solution would work if the switch works with +/-15V swing like TMUX6122.

Hi Hao,

Thanks for your proposal. The customer will consider this solution.

But I need to confirm if MAX3222E really has no built-in 5kohm because I found another thread talked about this issue.

I'm sorry I missed that part. MAX3222E does have built-in 5kOhm resistor. Unfortunately all TI RS-232 has the resistor.

Hi Hao,

Understood that all of our RS232 lineup has a built-in 5kohm.

Maybe the wrong block diagrams should be modified, as some customers might misunderstand, too.
