SN65HVD234: which TCAN is p2p compatible with SN65HVD234

Part Number: SN65HVD234
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN334

Hello,
which TCAN transceiver is p2p compatible to the SN65HVD234?

Regards, Holger

  • Hi Holger,

We don't currently have any TCAN variants that support 3.3V supply voltages. Newer versions of these 3.3V transceivers are planned, but I don't have anything to share on them at the moment.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

  • Hello Eric,
    what about the TCAN3xx?

    eg https://www.ti.com/product/TCAN332 ?

    Regards, Holger

  • Hi Holger,

My mistake. I know we're in the process of refreshing this family as well. Apologies for the slip.

SN65HVD234 essentially features a shutdown mode using the EN pin (pin 5). When this pin is low (or open), the device is in a low-power state with both driver and receiver disabled. A similar feature is available in TCAN334 on the SHDN pin (also pin 5) but with the opposite polarity. When the SHDN pin is driven high (internal pull-down), the device turns off both driver and receiver to save power. The STB feature (pin 8) on this device is also different from TCAN334 (pin 8 for slope control). This pin is active high as well, so if it is externally pulled-down, this feature will not be active.

All other pins are p2p compatible and will be functionally the same as the SN65HVD versions. Will this suffice for the replacement, or are more similarities (SHDN polority, slope control) neccisary?

    Regards,
    Eric Schott
