Hi Team,

I had a question about the TUS8042A's PWRCTL pins. When the OVERCURxz pin's state changes from the power switch detecting an overcurrent event, does the PWRCTL pin latch turning off the switch until there is a new plug insert, or is there a way to have the PWRCTL pin de-assert via I2C or a timer?

Hi Jon,

While the OVERCURxz input is asserted, the hub will de-assert PWRCTL, and the hub will also report the overcurrent event to the USB host. The USB host may disable power to the ports or maybe disable the hub entirely - this is operating system dependent.

Understood. Is the host able to issue a command to re-enable the port, or should an auto-retry circuit as shown in the TPS2561 datasheet be used instead?

Hi Jon,

The host is able to issue a command to re-enable power to the port. There is no retry required as part of the USB specifications.
