DP83867IS: Forced Speed selection 1000Mbps

Hi,

The Basic Mode Control Register (BMCR: 0x0000) has the option to set the speed selection bits (13 & 6) to 1000 Mbps.
In a other thread, forcing the PHY to 1000Mbps said its not possible (https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/f/interface-forum/765997/dp83867is-dp83867-phy-will-not-work-with-forced-1000f).

Why is there a option for 1000 Mbps if it not possible to force 1000M link?

Hi Steven,

Yes this is true. For gigabit, you should leave auto-negotiation enabled.

Forced mode is used for compliance testing and other debug.
