Just wondering at what cable lengths does cable equalization begin to be a consideration? Current application is 1.485Gbps SMPTE 292M, and the max cable length is expected to be only 5m. For parts such as the LMH0034, or the LMH0344 for 3Gbps applications, when are cable equalizers needed and when is it safe not to have them?
In the past i have put the equalizer in bypass mode, i.e no equalization, and was able to go to like 10 to 15m of Belden 1694A cable. Please note you would still need an equalizer or a balun of some kind to go from single ended input to differential output.
