TPS65987D: How to make a firmware which set TPS65987 to negotiate on other voltage rather than 5V?

Hi TI,

I am using TPS65987D at sink side, and I generated a firmware and download to the SPI Flash of TPS65987.

I made two PDOs as below.However, every time TPS65987 will negotiate at 5V. How can I make it to send request to source side and get other voltage, like 20V?

Where I can set it in this Application Customization tool?

Hi Fan,

If you are using the TPS65987EVM, then you can load the EVM recovery image which contains 5V, 9V, 15V, and 20V source capabilities. If you are using the TPS65987 on your own system, please ensure that you have a variable DC/DC that is capable of sourcing the other PD voltages.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your reply. I have a PD adapter as source. When I connect it with TPS65987D EVM, I can get 20V on Vbus.

However, when I connect adapter with my system which has TPS65987D on it, I only can get 5V on Vbus. I suspect some settings in firmware will decide whether system will require 20V or not. Do you know where I can set in the Application Customization Tool?

Hi Fan,

In this case, you need to adjust the Transmit Sink Capabilities register (0x33) to contain a 20V sink capability. If this is not available, the TPS65987D will only sink 5V.

Hi Eric,

Below picture is the setup I did in application customization tool.

I cannot change PD1 setting according to my understanding. Should I change minimum voltage from 5V to 20V in PDO2 to achieve it?

Hi Fan,

The settings in your image should work to enable 20V sink. However, I would recommend going to the latest version of the GUI tool to avoid issues caused by the older released version.
