Hi,

Please suggest which is the best ESD diode that can be used for 1GBPS Ethernet application. I have two diodes in my mind. TPD4E001 and TPD4E1U06. Which one is best choice.

Also I have two different scenarios.

1. Ethernet signals are directly given to RJ45 magjack connector.

2. Ethernet signals are given to transformer.

So please suggest the TVS diodes for 2 scenarios.

Hello,

The TPD4E1U06 or the ESDS314 will work for Ethernet between the phy and the transformer. TPD4E1U06 is for 5V lines and ESDS314 is for 3.6V lines but has much higher protection.

Is the transformer integrated in the RJ45 connector in scenario 1? If so then you can still use the parts.

The TVS diodes that we have are rated for 1kV 42ohm surge but some etherent applications are exposed to much higher surge pulses that we do not have a device for. You will have to use a typical TVS diode.
