DP83822I: Will the communication speed be affected by the signal quality?

Hi team,

My customer is using DP83822I. Both DP83822I side and partner side are configured to Auto-negotiation mode. In normal status, if both side are configured to auto-nego, the communication speed should be negotiated to 100Mbps. So my question is:

If the environment is very bad and interferes with the communication cable, will the communication speed get degraded to 10Mbps from 100Mbps automatically? Is there any mechanism in the auto-negotiation protocal to adjust the communication speed according to signal quality when both sides are configured to auto-negotiation mode? Thanks.

    Hi Wayne,

    What kind of interference are you thinking could occur on the cable? You won't be able to adjust the speed based off of the quality of the environment since that would be difficult to measure, however, you can select which speeds you'd like to advertise in auto-negotiation.
