TCA9517: Continuous output current

Part Number: TCA9517

Hi Team,

I would like to know about Absolute Maximum Ratings.

Is Continuous output current ±50mA the total of A side and B side outputs? Or is it the maximum value for each side?

I also want to estimate the maximum current consumption.

How do you think about it?

 Conditions: VCCB=3.3V, VCCA=1.8V

Best Regards,

Kenji

  • Hey Kenji,

"Is Continuous output current ±50mA the total of A side and B side outputs? Or is it the maximum value for each side?"

I'll need to double check on this for you but my thought would be that it is for a single output.

"I also want to estimate the maximum current consumption."

I looked at some char data and found the MAX to be around 4mA for a case of contention where VccA was 1.7V and VccB was 3.3V across temperature.

  • Hi,

Can you please clarify me for the below,

Datasheet mentioned Io (continuous current ) is applicable for each pin ?? That is we have 5 data pins, So each pin can source or sink upto 50mA ? Please advice..

    Thanks.

  • Hey Vignesh,

"Datasheet mentioned Io (continuous current ) is applicable for each pin ?? That is we have 5 data pins, So each pin can source or sink upto 50mA ?"

    Heres what I found out:

Each I/O pin should be able to handle 50mA individually but the totally amount of current sunk cannot exceed 100mA otherwise you are outside of the absolute Max ratings.

My thought on this now though, is that the IoL will get clamped at some point based on the VccB voltage due to the NFET going into saturation mode if you tried to drive too much current into it.
