TCA9517: Master/Slave correct direction

Part Number: TCA9517

Hello team,

I think that the correct use case of TCA9517 is A side for Master and B side for Slave as the picture on the 1st page of the datasheet.
On the other hand, Figure 7 makes confuse me. Is it can also used opposite direction? (I believe 0.5V of Vol offset can work for the Slave side.)

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Sawamoto-san,

Either side of the device could interface to a master or slave.  As you pointed out, you would just need to make sure that the output voltage levels are compatible with the other devices sharing the I2C bus segment (especially when considering the higher VOL used on the B side).  The voltage level requirements are generally the same for master or slave devices.

Please let us know if this is unclear or if you have further questions.

    Regards,
    Max

  • Thanks a lot for your swift feedback, Max.

I understood that there is no limitation for the bus direction but need to care about VOL on the B side.
When further questions happen, let me send you an email.

    Regards,
    S.Sawamoto
