TCA9548A: is there an alternative to reseting the part than using the reset pin?

Part Number: TCA9548A

Assuming an additional IO pin is not available to be connected to reset pin of this IC. Is it possible to reset the device by another means if it hangs? For example, sending a certain number of clocks while keeping data line low?

  • Hello Habib,

I2C standard states in the event that the SDA line is glitched you can send 9 clock pulses on SCL to try to reset the slave's state machine. I usually recommend 18 clock pulses to be double sure but standard states 9. (This does not truly reset the device the same way a PoR would, values stored in registers remain the same).

    Thanks,
