TPIC8101 Knock Sensor Interface Bandpass Width

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPIC8101

Hello, and apologies in advance if this question has already been answered on this forum.

I have a question about the tpic8101 automotive knock sensor interface device.

The center frequency of the bandpass filter is programmable, however I do not see commands to set the width of the bandpass filter.

How is this set, or what default value does it use?

For example, if I set the center frequency to 6kHz, does the filter capture 5.5 to 6.5 kHz?  Or a narrower or wider band pass?
Thanks in advance-
MW

  • MW,

    Sorry for the delayed response. You might already have this answer, but we recently added a few more details about the bandpass filter in the TPIC8101 datasheet. You can see the transfer function for it on page 18 in the application section. You cannot set the bandwidth of the filter, but you do know that the Q factor is about 2.3.
    Q = f_center/Bandwidth

    Please let me know if you have more questions.
