ISO1410: ISO1410,ISO3086T

Part Number: ISO1410
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISOW7841, SN6501,

Hii,

I have a slight doubt of selection of Modbus Isolator

I have to isolate my signal as well as the power-

There are two options i am slecting among

1) ISO1410

in this i have to use separately Transformer Driver

2) ISO3086T

This has the transformer driver integrated in it

So which one to choose.

Apart from this, i would have aso used ISOW7841, but it is mentioned in a document that the efficiency reduces to 50%, what efficiency it is referring to.

  • Ankur,

The ISO1410 has more robust EMC performance. I would recommend using the ISO1410 in addition to the SN6501/SN6505 transformer driver for the isolated DC/DC. With this method you can choose the particular transformer that is best suited for your application and 80% or better efficiency can be achieved. I have included a diagram below that shows this solution that also uses an LDO. This diagram is from a document that discusses this solution for isolated RS-485.

    Respectfully,

    Lucas

  • Thanks for your reply, Lucas.

While selecting the transformer, how to know the what isolation(Vrms) has to be taken?

what is the method to determine this parameter.

  • Ankur,

The isolation of the transformer needs to be at least as good as the isolation of the transceiver. The level of isolation required is generally determined by your system and the standards that define how much isolation is required. IEC 61800-5-1, for example, is the standard that defines isolation in adjustable speed electrical power drive systems.

    Respectfully,

    Lucas
