# TPS7H1101A-SP: Power Dissipation Calculation Using RθJC

Part Number: TPS7H1101A-SP

Hi All,

We are planning to use TPS7H1101A-SP for our project with below specifications:

Vin = 5V

Vout= 3.5V

Iout = 2.376A

With these specifications total power dissipation comes out to be 3.564W.

In TPS7H1101A-SP datasheet RθJC = 0.6°C/W but RθJA is not given. Generally power disspation is calculated using RθJA.

So my question is how to calculate maximum power dissipation of  TPS7H1101A-SP using RθJC.?

And can we use  TPS7H1101A-SP with specifications mentioned above.

Given that you are using the space rated version of that part, for most applications RθJA is unneeded as it relates to the temperature of ambient air near the device.

Given space is more or less a vacuum it is unnecessary to know what temperature the ambient air around the part will be.

RθJC is the temperature of the case which is seen as more relevant. You calculate this temperature like any other RθJ where:

RθJC*(Watts Dissipated) = Temperature Rise

ΔT = 0.6*3.564 = 2.1384
