SN74LVC14A: Input rise/fall time spec

Part Number: SN74LVC14A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN54LVC14A,

Hello,

Datasheet 8.3.2 states as follows and it confused me a lot.

“Signals applied to the inputs need to have fast edge rates, as defined by Δt/Δv in Recommended Operating Conditions: SN54LVC14A and Recommended Operating Conditions: SN74LVC14A to avoid excessive currents and oscillations. If a slow or noisy input signal is required, a device with a Schmitt-trigger input should be utilized to condition the input signal prior to the standard CMOS input.”

I can not find any input Δt/Δv spec in Recommended Operating Conditions: SN74LVC14A.
In the first place, SN74LVC14A is a Schmitt-trigger inverter. So the sentence, “If a slow or noisy input signal is required, a device with a Schmitt-trigger input should be utilized to condition the input signal prior to the standard CMOS input.” is inconsistent with SN74LVC14A, I think.

Datasheet 9.2.2.1 also states required input Δt/Δv spec, and it confused me too.

Do 8.3.2 and 9.2.2.1 really applies to SN74LVC14A input?
Or those are just cut & past errors from no-Schmitt-trigger device datasheet, and no input Δt/Δv limitations at SN74LVC14A?

Best regards,

K.Hirano
