CD74HC123: Application Note sdla006a

Part Number: CD74HC123

Hi Experts,

Our customer has an old design from their company, they discover that the schematic deployed is not compliant with the SDLA006A information (Rex > 180k). Which can be the consequences? The circuit works as expected most of the time but they are afraid that some disagreements may occur sometimes.

Please advise. Thank you in advance for your information.

Best regards,
Gerald

  • Hi Gerald,

Are they using the commercial or the military device?

The datasheet indicates that the external timing resistance should not be greater than 180kohm for the military rated part:

We cannot guarantee correct operation with values outside the datasheet specification.

There will always be some leakage current into the device - large resistances can produce a significant voltage drop from this leakage current.

For an example, a 180kohm resistor would drop 1V from the supply if only 5.5uA were run through it.

  • Hi Emrys,

Thank you for this precious information.

The requirement for the final product is Temperature industrial grade (-40 / +85°C). Then, the military version is required.

Nevertheless, with a 680k resistor, we are compliant with none of the 2 versions.

    Kind regards,
    Gerald
