SN74AC14-Q1: SN74AC14QPWRQ1, LM211QDRG4Q1, & LM211QDRQ1 roughened NiPdAu finish

Hello,

I am looking at TI parts SN74AC14QPWRQ1, LM211QDRG4Q1, & LM211QDRQ1 which are affected by PCNs that state a change in leadframe surface from standard NiPdAu to roughened NiPdAu. SN74AC14QPWRQ1 is affected by PCN 20161017001 and LM211QDRG4Q1 & LM211QDRQ1 are affected by PCN 20150624002A.

Can you please explain what is the difference between the two terminal finishes?

Can you also provide the Pd & Au plating layer thickness for both types of finish? This will help us determine if we need to send these parts out for hot solder dip (HSD) per our Lead-Free Control Plan (LFCP).

Hello Albert,

Does this mean that both the standard (non-roughened) NiPdAu and roughened NiPdAu terminal finishes both have the same amount of Pd & Au thickness?

Hey Jasmine,

Yes, standard and roughened should have the same makeup. Only difference is one will be roughened.

Hi Albert,

Okay, I also received the attached "Application Note Single Side Rough Leadframe" pdf file from a TI contact which seems to explain that the difference between the standard non-rough and the rough NiPdAu terminal finish is the textured surface of the rough NiPdAu terminal finish as opposed to the smooth surface of the non-rough NiPdAu terminal finish. Which I take it to mean that the thickness of each material doesn't change, only the texture. Is that correct? Application Note Single Side Rough Leadframe.pdf

Hi Jasmine,

Yes, you are correct. I phrased my previous reply poorly. The thicknesses and the metals in the leadframe are the same.
