Hi Team,

This inquiry is related to the other E2E thread below.

According to our customer,

If I was going to use the 74LVC3G17 for transmit and receive along with using coax as a transmission medium, what data rates could I expect to get? Assume the signal is 50 ohm terminated at the receiver.

To drive the 50 ohm termination, I would have to gang several outputs together. They would always be the same level so there would not be contention.

A 50 Ω termination has nothing to do with TTL.

Please specify the electrical characteristics of the receiver, especially its V_IL/V_IH.

Hi Clemens,

Thank you for your response. The 74LVC3G17 will be use as transmitter as well as receiver in the customer's application. Our customer would like to know the data rates if he will use 74LVC3G17 for both transmitter and receiver.

There are several different ways to terminate a transmission line; see pages 1-27…29 of the LVC Designer's Guide. The simplest way is a series resistor at the transmitter, which allows to use a single-channel gate (SN74LVC1G17), but you can choose another one if it fits your circumstances.

LVC supports 175 MHz at 3.3 V. Some termination techniques might reduce this.

Is it okay to gang the IO of the LVC device together to give higher drive capability. The question about increasing the drive strength wasn't answered.
