SN74LVC2G74-Q1: Operation as both D Flip-Flop and S/R Latch depending on clock signal input

Hi,

I am trying to use this D Flip-Flop in an application where a set of push button controls the output state of the chip. I don't need a clock signal, just that the output state be held until the next event state.

The datasheet doesn't make it clear, though, whether or not a clock signal is required. By definition, flip-flops require a clock - otherwise the device is a latch.

Would someone clarify if it's possible to use this device in both ways? That is, as a latch and a flip-flop? I've been assuming that the truth table covers both use cases since there are rows where the clock input doesn't matter (they're marked by X for "don't care").

Thanks,

Matt
