SN74HC595: Can SN74HC595DRG4 directly replace SN74HC595DR?

Part Number: SN74HC595

Tool/software:

I am using SN74HC595DR in my design as a shift register, sometimes I can't get it, so I want to use SN74HC595DRG4 instead, but I find that it doesn't work and the signal doesn't output correctly, I don't see any functional difference between these two, so can they be used together? thanks.

  • There are different manufacturing sites using different dies, but the guaranteed datasheet parameters are the same. (You can also get these different dies with the SN74HC595DR, so this has nothing to do with the G4 suffix.)

Please show an oscilloscope trace of the relevant inputs and output of the chip that you think does not work correctly.

  • Hi Zac,

Electrically these devices should be the exact same. Please provide more details like Clemens asked for.

    Best,

    Malcolm
