SMV512K32-SP: Shorted Output Current Limit

Part Number: SMV512K32-SP

Tool/software:

I discovered an I/O pin that was shorted to ground on a PCB using this IC. We removed the short, but I need clarification on the datasheet’s limit for shorted outputs. The datasheet says “(3) No more than one output may be shorted at a time for maximum duration of one second.” (See page 5). Does this mean a single output cannot be shorted for more than one second, or does it mean that more than one output cannot be shorted for more than one second? I am trying to assess if the part has been compromised and should be replaced.

  • Hi Ryan,

An I/O pin shorted to GND should not damage the device at all.

I am not sure what this footnote is actually referring to. It sounds like shorting outputs together rather than to GND.
