SN74LVC14A: Enquire on radiation data

Part Number: SN74LVC14A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN54LVC14A, SN54LVC14A-SP

Dear Sir/Madam,

I'm interested in SN74LVC14A in term of  it's VCC operation of 1.65-V to 3.6-V. I'm looking if there is radiation tests been performed on SN74LVC14A?

In the datasheet beside the electrical/operating temperature performance different between SN74LVC14A, SN54LVC14A, I notice there is a space grade part: SN54LVC14A-SP.

Is SN74LVC14A, SN54LVC14A, SN54LVC14A-SP from the sample technologies node? Is it possible to read across between the mentioned space and industry grades?

I also notice this three part has the same FITs as well rate.

Thanks

  • Hello Nick,

These devices are qualified very differently. Additionally, the packages between the two are very different as well and for reasons that are specifically related to rugged conditions tolerance.
If you need parts that are rated for space, the best is to go with the SN54LVC14A-SP as you mentioned.
We make no guarantee that the SN74LVC14A will work at all under the same conditions as the SN54LVC14A-SP, and we would actively discourage you from using a non-space grade part for a space or high radiation environment application.

    Best,
    Michael
  • Michael, thanks for informing me on this post.

    Nick,
The -SP version of the SN54LVC14A has not been radiation hardened by process. There are some differences as Michael noted that could alter performance and reliability.

We do have 3 logic devices that had significant process modifications to improve radiation performance. Many of the logic families natively only obtain about 10Krad TID performance.
These three devices are the AC00, AC02, and AC14. These have SEL improvement, and TID performance should be greater than 50k.
Note, these only apply to the -SP devices in the AC family.
    Regards,
    Wade
