CD4541B: CD4541B-E3 VS CD4541B-E4

Part Number: CD4541B

Dear Ti Expert,

Is any difference in terms of functionality between CD4541B-E3 and CD4541B-E4. Can we use CD4541B-E3 as a replacement for CD4541B-E4?    The reason I am asking this is because our design normal use CD4541B-E4 for production, and the system operates as expected. However, when we changed the part to CD4541B-E3, the system exhibits instability. The system returns to normal again once we switched the device back to CD4541B-E4. We really don't know why the system behave like that?

Best regards,

Peter

  • The CD4541B and CD4541B‍-E4 are identical.

The CD4541B-E3 does not exist (see below). Where did you get it from? What are its markings?

  • Hi Clemens,

We ordered CD4541B products from TI authorized distributor. Below are pictures of IC we got. The picture on the left with E3 marking has been an issue with us. TI normally delivers us CD4541B-E4, but we occasionally receive CD4541B with E3 marking. Peter

  • Hello,

CD4541BE is the part number and indicates the function.

The other code shown is a lot trace code to help TI find the manufacturing location and date of a particular device.

Can you share details about your system?  How is the device being used (schematic)?  What goes wrong when you switch from the "E4" to the "E3" device (scope shots)?

  • I'm going to be travelling next week, so I'm going to close this for now and assign it to a different apps engineer.  If you need additional assistance, please provide the details I requested above in a response to this thread.
