SN74AUP1G14: Regarding Ambient and Junction Temperature.

Dear Support team,

Logic devices SN74AUP1G14, SN74AUP1G34 and SN74AUP1G08 datasheets specifies the Operating free-air temperature range (TA) from -40 to 85°C whereas Tjmax allowed is 150°C. If we have a scenario wherein ambient air temperature is > 95°C but still IC junction temperature, Tj <= 130°C is this ok? Will these logic devices behave or have same electical characteristics as specified in this case?

Hey Nilesh,

No these device are only specified up 85 C, any operation beyond that is not guaranteed. TJ(max) is not intended to override any other datasheet maximum value, but is included as an additional restriction. For example, a device may be able to output 200mA of current and remain below the TJ(max), however the device likely also has a maximum current rating that must be observed or it may be damaged.

Hey Nilesh,

This applies to the devices in question as well as the rest of our Logic and Voltage Translation portfolio. I can't speak for all of TIs devices, but I'd expect this would be somewhat different for other products like power devices where thermals are a more common concern.
