SN74LVC3G07: 28V Source --> 3.3k Resistor --> Photo Diode --> Output pin - Will this work?

My series circuit is:

28V source --> 3.3k Resistor --> Photo Diode --> SN74LVC3G07 output pin

The intent is for the photo diode to conduct when the SN74LVC3G07 is L and for the photo diode to not conduct when the SN74LVC3G07 is high Z. Will this work or is the 28V too high?

Hello,

28V is definitely too high for the SN74LVC3G07. It's absolute maximum voltage is 6.5V.

For this type of application, the most common way to do it is with a discrete BJT or MOSFET.
