SN74LVC2G07: Two Output Currents?

Part Number: SN74LVC2G07

Team,

There are two output currents listed in the datasheet for the SN74LVC2G07.  How do I interpret this?

Thank you.

  • There are different electrical characteristics specified for these two currents.

But listing both of them in this table does not make sense.

  • Hello,

I_OL is a test condition used to determine V_OL. Depending on which value of V_OL you are trying to meet, you can select either of these two values as your maximum current when using a 3V supply.

  • Emrys,

The screenshot from the datasheet that I sent is stating two different IoL specs for one VCC with no other column to differentiate the two.  I’m trying to sell off a design stating that the buffer is capable of sinking 24mA but I’m not sure because of the ambiguity of the datasheet.

    Please advise.

  • These IOL values are not a specification but a test condition.

If the voltage drop must be at most 0.4 V, you can sink up to 16 mA.
If the voltage drop must be at most 0.55 V, you can sink up to 24 mA.

The buffer is capable of sinking up to 50 mA (the absolute maximum rating), but the voltage drop will be even higher (and is not guaranteed).

  • Hi,

24mA is the recommended maximum output current if you want to limit the output voltage to 0.55V, 12mA is the recommended maximum output current if you want to limit the output voltage to 0.4V maximum. These are both _recommended_ maximum values, not limits of the device.

In your case, the maximum output voltage will be 0.55V when sinking 24mA. Is this acceptable in the system design?

The maximum output sink current of the SN74LVC2G07 is 50mA per channel (absolute maximum ratings table). 24mA is well below the maximum rating, so there should be no concern of damage. The only concern would be if the output voltage is too high for the system to operate correctly.

If a lower voltage is required, channels can be paralleled to increase drive strength and reduce voltage by half.

  • Much more concise than my reply -thanks Clemens.
