AM2434: I want to run PROFINET/IRT using AM243x

We have the same question. We are in the design phase of our PCB with the AM243x at the moment and have recognized that we might need additional memory.

According to a recent discussion in the forums (https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/arm-based-microcontrollers-group/arm-based-microcontrollers/f/arm-based-microcontrollers-forum/1229452/am2434-questions-about-profinet-in-mcu_plus_sdk_am243x_08_06_00_43) it seems like the current stack is larger than 2MB and optimizations will be done to reduce the size.

Anyhow, our own applications also use up quite a bit of space and it seems we would need additional memory to be on the safe side to use the PROFINET stack in the future. We are trying to determine if we are going to use DRAM via the DRAM interface or pSRAM/SRAM via the GPMC interface. Are there any recommendations which way to extend the memory would be better for the upcoming PROFINET stack?

By the way, I suppose this question from PO is regarding the upcoming stack, not the older one in one of the older SDKs.

Hi Ryuto/Erik,

Yes external ram will be required as the current size is more than 2MB. If you are using 17x17 package and have a DDR then DDR can be used. Else you will need to use external ram via GPMC.

As stated in previous post the schedule for the profinet release is not out yet, we are still working on resolving the licensing part to simplify the usage for our customers like you.
