TMS320F28069: On-Chip temperature limit

Dear Experts,

I would like to inquire about the operating temperature limit of TMS320F28069PZP. I utilize the internal temperature sensor on Channel A5 to monitor on-Chip temperature. In our application, the chip temperature can reach up to 122 degrees Celsius. At this point, the MCU is still running normally and performing its function.

However, as shown in the datasheet, the temperature limit for this chip is 125 degrees Celsius. I am concerned about what might happen if the chip temperature exceeds the operating limit. Will it crash? Should we be worried about this and apply thermal cooling measures, such as a heatsink or thermal pad?

The device should continue to operate within the DS specifications. Going above the recommended operating conditions will cause increased speed of aging for the device and ultimately lead to failure.

Hi Cody,

Understand that the accuracy can range around +- 20C, based on your references. I think it can explain why the reading can go up to 50+ C while running at room temperature.
Based on that, my application could actually drive MCU internal temp up to 100+ C. I will consider putting a heatsink on that.
