TMS320F28388D: Functional Safety Compliance

Part Number: TMS320F28388D

The functional safety compliance with the micro, is this all hardware dependent or is there a specific OS that supports the functional safety compliance? For Example: if the TI DSP BIOS/SYS BIOS is replaced with Free-RTOS, is the chip still functional safety compliant? Or is there a specific tool chain required for functional safety compliance?

  • The F2838x device family hardware certification doesn't depend on any RTOS. You don't need to use one at all, or you can use a safety compliant one of your choosing.

Note that SYS/BIOS and our FreeRTOS implementation have NOT been developed using a functional safety quality process though, so if you wanted to use them, you would need to take steps like you would for your own application code for systematic capability. The only pre-certified RTOS I'm aware of that supports C2000 devices is SAFERTOS.
