TMS320F28388D: Can Projects Built with the 379D Build and Run with the 388D?

Greetings,

We have a project which is purely logical (doesn’t use any of the HW resources on the DSP). It has been running on the 379D. We would like to be able to use this project, without modification, on the 388D. But the project properties currently specify the 379D. Is there any way to have the project get its processor from the main project? In both cases, the code runs on a C2000 core. Given that, does it matter?

Hi Ed,

Please have a look at this thread when you are migrating from f28379D to f28388D.

There will be significant change in the linker cmd files, memory mapping, and other headers included.

Are you trying to load a .out build with 379D device config and you need to run it on 388D device?

Hi Aswin,

Yes, we have been making changes to the other projects for the register set and library changes. But this project is purely logical, so there is no interaction with the hardware. In both cases, it runs on a C2000 core. It is linked into the main project. It builds and links fine.

When debugging other stuff on the 388, I remembered that the logical project was setup for the 379D, not the 388D. It seems that since it has no interaction with the HW, it shouldn't be a problem to use it, as is, with both the 379 and 388 main projects. Because of its purely logical nature and the fact that it always runs on a C2000 core, it seems like the processor should be irrelevant. Is this correct?

Hi,

In this scenario the processor should not be an issue since there is no interaction with the hardware. You can try out loading the .out and see if the project is running as expected.
