Need some help in troubleshooting

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F2812

Hello to everyone,

I am new to this DSP board and would like to ask for some help in troubleshooting, ie. to connect to my PC.

Below are some of the technical information

Operating System: Windows XP 32bit

DSP: TMS320F2812

Software: CCS 3.1

Drivers: C2000 -> CCS 3.1 Driver Release 3.01.04C

Error Message when I tried connecting in CCS 3.1:

Error connecting to the target: Error 0x80000200/-1031 Fatal Error during: OCS, Device driver: Problem with the Emulation Controller. It is recommended to RESET EMULATOR. This will disconnect each target from the emulator. The targets should then be power cycled or hard reset followed by an emureset and reconnect to each target. Sequence ID: 0 Error Code: -1031 Error Class: 0x80000200 I/O Port = 378 Board Name: F2812 eZdsp Cpu Name: cpu_0 Abort: Close Code Composer Studio. Retry: Try to connect to the target again. Cancel: Remain disconnected from the target Diagnostic: Run diagnostic utility.

Additional Information: I have tried to reset the emulator using the SDConfig program. And SDConfig replied affirmatively to my reset command. In my CCS Setup, I have chosen
F2812 eZdsp. Below is my SD Config screenshot.

Please advise.

Let me know if more information is needed. Thank you for reading.

Have a nice day.

  • Hi Andres - it looks like an issue with the XDS510 drivers.

Try updating with these - http://www.sdidownloads.com/downloads/support/ccs31/Release-30104C/setupCCSPlatinum_v30104C.ZIP

and let us know if you have the same issue.

  • Hello Brett,

I have updated the CCS using your file (uninstalling followed by installing the new drivers)

However, when I select F2812 eZdsp in CCS Setup, I get the following error:

CCS does run when I click OK. But the same connection error occurs when I tried to connect (shown below):

By the way, my TMS320F2812 is connected to the PC via a printer cable directly. What should be my hardware product? XDS510PP_PLUS? or should it be XDS510PP?

Any suggestions? Hope to hear some good news soon!

Thank you and have a nice day.

    Regards,

    Andrew Ong

  • My apologies, the f2812.gel error was because I forgot to reinstall the target content from the CD supplied.

Now, there are no problems in starting the CCS v3.1

However, when I tried to connect from the Debug menu, the following error occurs:

SDConfig is the same as the one in previous post, using SPP8 as emulator port mode. I have also configured my parallel port mode in BIOS to be SPP. Is there any problems with the configurations?

What is this Error 1150 about? I do not have anything connected to the JTAG port on the board, instead connection is made to PC via printer cable only.

Thank you for your help so far and I hope to hear from you soon.

    Regards,

    Andrew Ong

  • Hi to all,

anyone have any ideas or suggestions with regards to this error 1150? Please help, the problem still exists and I can't continue my work.

    Regards,

    Andrew

  • Right click on "my computer"/manage/device manager/ports/printer port/port settings/use any interrupt assigned

    Restart the PC

in CCS setup make sure that the port address is the same that actual port address

    Hope this help

    Regards, Mitja

When you say make sure port address is the same as that actual port address? what do u mean by actual port address?

My Device Manager LPT Port Number is LPT1 and my CCS Setup PP Emulator address is 0x378. I do not see any other addresses other than these two. Can you advise further?

I am perplexed when CCS error says "JTAG protocol reset" when in my setup, I am using a printer cable to connect the board to the computer parallel port.

In addition, I am able to reset my emulator from within Sdconfig v3.1. Does this narrow down the problem? What could be the problem here?

    Regards,

    Andrew

  • I tried using SDConfig v3.1 to test my connection. Prior to this, I set my BIOS to SPP.

It was verified that the board is connected under Configuration->Verify:

    ** Checking for a valid emulator/eZdsp

      $$ You are connected to:
      $$ EmuProductName=XDS510PP_PLUS
      $$ EmuPortAddr=0x378
      $$ EmuPortMode=SPP8
      $$ ProductId=10
      $$ ProductVersion=84

However, when I tried to test connection under Emulator->Test:

    ** Checking for a valid emulator/eZdsp

      $$ You are connected to:
      $$ EmuProductName=XDS510PP_PLUS
      $$ EmuPortAddr=0x378
      $$ EmuPortMode=SPP8
      $$ ProductId=10
      $$ ProductVersion=84

    ** Checking emulator/eZdsp scan connection

    ** Emulator Test **

     $$ EmuProductName=XDS510PP_PLUS

     $$ EmuPortAddr=0x378

     $$ EmuPortMode=SPP8

     $$ ProductId=10

     $$ ProductVersion=84

     ** Emulator Scan Test

ERROR >> JTAG IR scan test failed

      >> Check power to your emulator/eZdsp
      >> Then check your port mode/address

Thing is, I am not sure what is JTAG and I am currently using a printer cable to connect the board to the computer's parallel port. Anyone can help?

    Regards,

    Andrew

  • Andrew,

I am just guessing here but I assume you are using eZdsp2818 ? This board has the emulator already on board (Altera FPGA I think). I you have different setup you most probably have XDS510PP+ (not there is a difference if you are having "XDS501PP" or "XDS510PP+") and you are connecting to custom board with DSP.

We can just assume that emulator/debuger is just a bus interface between JTAG bus and parallel bus.

the sdconfig messages you are getting basically say that PC is able to connect to emulator/debuger, but the emulator/debugger is unable to connect to DSP. Either DSP has no supply, emulator/debugger does not detect the supply or DSP's JTAG interface does not work. If you have another board available try if it works there

  • I have the same problem here.  I can not connect the JTAG (XDS510pp) and the target (TMS320C2812). I have changed the JTAG, the board and reinstalled the drive, but none of then solved my problem.  It happened with 3 boards that were working well before.

I have tried running with an eZdsp2812 and worked well. So I think the probIem is the target, but it is very strange that all boards stopped work at the same time, presenting the same error (error 1031).

Has anyone got any sugestions about what is happening?

    Regards, Julio

  • Hi I have similar problem with eZdspf2812 board..

When I try to connect using parallel port -  this occurs:

    Error connecting to the target:
    Error 0x80000200/-2092
    Fatal Error during: OCS,
Device driver: Emulation Connection Loss Detected on Target CPU.
It is recommended to RESET EMULATOR.  This will disconnect each
target from the emulator.  The targets should then be power cycled
or hard reset followed by an emureset and reconnect to each target.

    Sequence ID: 0
    Error Code: -2092
    Error Class: 0x80000200
    I/O Port = 378

    Board Name: F2812 eZdsp
    Cpu Name: cpu_0

    Abort:          Close Code Composer Studio.
Retry:          Try to connect to the target again.
Cancel:         Remain disconnected from the target
    Diagnostic:     Run diagnostic utility.

Former the board was working correct, but after the voltage brake down, when I try to connect I get the message..

It also stops me in further work :(

    Best regards,

    RP

  • Hi,

Most likely you damaged your DSP and the only available solution is to replace it. It should be easy if you have eZdsp with socket.

And this is as much as I can do to help.

    Regards, Mitja

  • Thank You very much for your quick replay..

I asked my Colleague about possible cause of a voltage breake down.. As it occured the short circuit was made with autotransformer --->DMC1500 --> eZdsp2812 -->PP (LPT) --> PC --> ground :(

After the connection of power supply everything turned off.. And the residual current device was triggered :(

So I think this was the cause of a problem.

So I hope that the only thing that was damaged was the processor :(

    Best regards,

    RP
