CCS/TMS320F28388D: How does one set the EMUBOOTPINCONFIG register and its OTP equivalents?

Hi,

I want to define some custom boot mode pins. I understand that in development one will want to set the value of the EMUBOOTPINCONFIG register, but when in production one will need to set those values in Z1-BOOTPINCONFIG OTP.

So how does one set the values of those memory locations? My guess is that it is possible to change EMUBOOTPINCONFIG in CCS, but I am unsure how that is done. As for the OTP memory, in addition to wanting to know how one can set a value in OTP, how does one verify the value that was just set?

Howard,

EMUBOOTPINCONFIG is mapped at address 0xD00 (refer table "Table 5-17. CPU1 Boot ROM Registers" in device TRM) so after you connect to CCS, open CCS memory watch window and update this address there.

To update OTP location, you can do it via flash plug-in GUI (in CCS, click on "Tools -> On-Chip Flash" after connecting to target) by providing appropriate value in Z1OTP-GPREG1 field and click "program GPREG". Please note that value programmed in OTP can not be changed later so you have to make sure you are programming correct value.

By "memory watch", you mean the "Memory Browser" view, correct?

So once I have configured my desired boot pins and boot modes by setting the appropriate values in the appropriate memory locations, how do I make CPU1 act upon those values?

Do I use CPU Reset in the Debug perspective?

Yes, you issue a CPU reset from debugger and after then when you click on "Run" device will boot as per new BOOT setting.

Using CCS to program the OTP memory is not feasible for mass production.

UniFlash would be the more appropriate tool to use in production (especially through its command line interface), is that correct?

That is correct. In that case you need to include these values into your .out file. You can refer the C2000Ware example led_ex2_blinky_dcsm (driverlib\f2838x\examples\c28x\led) to see how cmd file and asm file can be created to include in your project.
