Hello,

I recently stumbled upon the page for the TMS570 MDK KIT : processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/TMS570_MDK_Kit

It seems to be a very good board and exactly what I wanted. But I sadly discovered that it was discontinued by the manufacturer.

What was the reason for this? Is there a development kit that replaced this one? Is there a possibility to still purchase this?

Hi Adrian,

The TMS570 MDK was based on TMS570LS20216 MCU, which is not recommended for new designs. TMS570LS3137 is an appropriate replacement for the LS20216 MCU. LS3137 is supported via this development kit: www.ti.com/.../tmds570ls31hdk

Hello Sunil,

Thank you for the clarifications. The main reason this board was of interest to me was the fact that it featured Flexray transceivers. It's sad to see that there are no development kits that feature this, while there are many chips that support Flexray.

Hello Sunil,

Just out of curiosity, can you specify more clearly what you mean by 'not recommended for new designs'. Let's say I bought a used TMS570 MDK kit, what issues will I face? If I use older versions of Code Composer and Halcogen, compatible with that board, will I face unexpected bugs or problems regarding communication drivers?

Hi Adrian,

NRND means just that - we recommend you choose another part if you are starting a new development. A TMS570 MDK kit is difficult to find, and a used version may not be fully functional. We have HDKs as the suggested development kits for TMS570 microcontrollers. There is an add-on card designed to go along with the HDKs. This add-on card includes transceivers for FlexRay, CAN and LIN interfaces. You can find more details including the schematics, PCB layout, and gerber files here: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../HDK_FlexrayCanLin_Daughter_Crad.zip

We don't have these add-on cards in stock, so you can build them using the information provided.
