MSP430FR2633: Socket board recommendations

Part Number: MSP430FR2633
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-TS430RGE24A, MSP-TS430DL48, MSP-TS430DA38

Hello,
I need to debug a big number of MSP430FR2633 Microcontroller without soldering them on a PCB as it will be used for flexible printed electronics.
What can you offer please as a socket board debugger of adapter for 32-pin DA package (TSSOP) ?
I know that you dont have the product so please recommend anything from alternative producers that I can use for my application.
As the use of your microcontrollers depend mostly on the socket board.
Thank you,
Best regards,

    Hi team,

Customer want to confirm if they can use this socket to debug the TSSOP 32pin package MSP430FR2633.

  • Hello,

I merged these threads since they are very similar.

The only target socket board that we offer for the MSP430FR2633 would be the MSP-TS430RGE24A, but this board only supports the 24-pin RGE (QFN) package. You are using the 32-pin IDA (TSSOP) package, so this board won't work unfortunately.

I know that you dont have the product so please recommend anything from alternative producers that I can use for my application.

Looking through our MSP430 Hardware Tools User's Guide, I found that we do not have a target board with a 32-pin TSSOP socket. However, you could potentially design your own target socket board and order a larger TSSOP socket such as those found on the 38-pin MSP-TS430DA38 and 48-pin MSP-TS430DL48 boards. The 32-pin TSSOP package has a 0.65mm pitch, so the Yamaichi Electronics IC189-0382-037 socket could be used.

Worst case, you could purchase one or more MSP-TS430DA38 boards, remove the sockets and place them on your custom target boards for programming the devices. Your board would need to include components (e.g. passives) that match our JTAG circuit recommendations in the MSP430 Hardware Tools User's Guide and other requirements in the datasheet.

Customer want to confirm if they can use this socket to debug the TSSOP 32pin package MSP430FR2633.

No, this socket cannot be used since the pitch is 0.5mm. The 32-pin TSSOP package has a 0.65mm pitch.
